Butter Bingo Squares

 

Filling:  In heavy saucepan, combine 2 T. butter, 6 oz. chocolate chips, 1 can evaporated milk, ¼ c. sugar, ¼ t. salt.  Bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly.  Remove from heat and stir in ½ c. chopped pecans or walnuts.

 

Oatmeal Base:  Cream ½ c. butter, add 1 c. brown sugar, 1 egg, 1 t. vanilla and beat until light and fluffy.  Stir in 1 ¼ c. flour, ½ t. baking soda, ½ t. salt and 1 ¾ c. oats.  Blend.

 

Press 2/3 of oatmeal mixture into buttered 9x9 pan.  Spread with cooled chocolate filling.  Mix ¼ c. oats with oatmeal mixture and crumble over the top of the filling.  Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.  Cool at least 20 minutes.
