Ginger Creams

 

¼ c. shortening

½ c. sugar

1 egg

½ c. molasses

½ c. water

½ t. cloves

2 c. flour

½ t. baking soda

½ t. salt

1 t. ginger

½ t. nutmeg

½ t. cinnamon

 

Cream shortening and sugar, mix in egg and molasses. Stir in water.  Add dry ingredients.  Chill dough.  Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.  Bake 400 degrees 7-8 minutes.  Frost with desired frosting.  (A mixture of confectioners sugar and milk is what mom used!)
